    What Are Varicose Veins?

A couple sits in a doctors office, engaged in conversation. The doctor, wearing a white coat and blue pants, holds a tablet. The couple is casually dressed, with the man in a gray sweater and jeans, and the woman in a beige sweater.

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that most commonly appear in the legs when the valves within the veins become weakened or damaged. This causes blood to flow backwards and collect in the vein, leading to swelling and visible distortion.

They are extremely common, affecting up to 1 in 3 people, and may present as both a medical and cosmetic concern.

    Common symptoms

    • Aching or heavy legs
    • Swelling in the lower limbs
    • Itching or discomfort
    • Visible bulging veins
    • Skin changes or discolouration

    Why Do People Seek Treatment?

Varicose vein treatment is not purely cosmetic.

Patients often seek treatment due to:

    • Ongoing discomfort or pain
    • Reduced confidence due to visible veins
    • Swelling or heaviness in the legs
    • Skin changes or irritation
    • Prevention of complications

If left untreated, varicose veins can progress and may lead to:

    • Chronic venous insufficiency
    • Skin damage or ulcers
    • Superficial thrombosis or increased DVT risk

We offer a full range of advanced, minimally invasive varicose vein treatments, delivered as outpatient procedures with minimal downtime.
