As the weather warms up, the questions we hear at Healthium Clinics change. Fewer people are asking about intensive resurfacing and more are asking how to get their skin looking fresh and even for the summer without downtime or sun sensitivity. Two of our most popular treatments, JetPeel and microneedling, both improve texture, tone and hydration. They work in different ways, and the right choice depends on your skin, your goals and your calendar.
JetPeel: the no-needle, no-downtime option
JetPeel uses a high-pressure stream of oxygen and liquid microdroplets to cleanse, exfoliate and infuse the skin. There are no needles and no chemical peeling agents. The jet gently lifts dead skin cells and debris from the pores, then delivers a customised blend of serums, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants, deep into the skin.
The treatment takes around 45 to 60 minutes and feels cool and refreshing, a little like a strong breeze against the face. Afterwards your skin looks immediately brighter, plumper and more hydrated. There is virtually no downtime and you can return to work, exercise or a social event straight away.
JetPeel suits:
- Dull, dehydrated or congested skin
- Enlarged pores and mild acne-prone skin
- Uneven tone and early fine lines
- Anyone who wants an instant refresh before an event
- Skin that is sensitive or reactive to needles or peels
Many patients have JetPeel every two to four weeks through the summer as a maintenance treatment. Because it does not compromise the skin barrier, it is well suited to the season, provided you continue to use daily SPF.
Microneedling: collagen stimulation with modest downtime
Microneedling uses a device with very fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. This triggers the skin’s natural repair process, boosting collagen and elastin production over the following weeks and months. It is an effective treatment for texture concerns that sit deeper than the surface.
The treatment takes around 45 minutes including numbing cream. Afterwards the skin looks pink to red, similar to mild sunburn, for one to three days, and may feel tight or dry for a few days more. Results build gradually and a course of three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, is typical.
At Healthium we also offer microneedling combined with exosomes, which are regenerative signalling molecules applied during treatment to enhance the repair response and reduce recovery time.
Microneedling suits:
- Acne scarring and other textural scarring
- Fine lines and loss of firmness
- Enlarged pores
- Pigmentation and uneven tone
- Stretch marks on the body
The summer question
Microneedling is not off the table in summer, but it needs more care. For a week or two after treatment the skin is more vulnerable to UV, and sun exposure during the healing phase can cause pigmentation rather than improve it. If you are planning a beach holiday or spend a lot of time outdoors, it is better to complete a course in autumn or winter, or to time sessions carefully around your plans.
JetPeel has no such restriction. It is the treatment we recommend most often between June and September for patients who want visible improvement without having to think about recovery.
Can you combine them?
Yes, and many patients do. A common approach is a course of microneedling in the cooler months to address deeper texture concerns, with JetPeel treatments through the summer to maintain hydration and brightness. JetPeel can also be used in the weeks before microneedling to prepare the skin.
A word on sunscreen
Whichever treatment you choose, the single most important product in your summer routine is a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, applied every morning and reapplied if you are outdoors. It protects the investment you have made in your skin, prevents new pigmentation and is the one piece of advice every practitioner at Healthium will give you. If you are unsure which sunscreen suits your skin type, ask at your appointment.
Which one is right for you?
The honest answer is that it depends on what you are trying to change, and a consultation is the best way to find out. At Healthium Clinics, our advanced aesthetic practitioners will assess your skin, discuss your goals and the time of year, and recommend a plan that fits. We are a CQC-registered, medically led clinic, and we will always tell you if we think a treatment is not the right fit.
